Today marks the first day of August, which also happens to be the first day of National Curb Appeal Month! This special month is dedicated to helping homeowners increase the curb appeal and value of their home. Enhancing the curb appeal of your home will make it more welcoming to friends, family and neighbors, but it doesn’t have to be a big project.
If you aren’t sure where to start, here are some ideas.
Decorate your front porch. Dressing up your front porch will make your home look lived in and welcoming. If you have the space, adding a few chairs and a table creates an inviting spot to sit and relax outdoors. If you have a smaller front porch or patio, consider adding a welcome mat and wreath!
Add some flowers. Flowers bring visual interest to a space by providing color and texture. Many home improvement stores have pre-planted planters filled with a variety of different flowers and plants. Let them know how much direct sunlight the spot gets so you purchase flowers that will last. Placing planters on a porch or along a walkway are great areas to consider adding flowers or plants.

Clean up your yard. Yards naturally accumulate debris overtime. Walking around your property and clearing out grass clippings, sticks and leaves will make your yard look better, especially after a good yard mowing.
Trim your bushes. Spring and summer bring wonderful vegetation and lot of growth. Sometimes that growth results in your bushes and trees looking unkempt. Periodically cutting any wayward branches and evening out your bushes will make a big impact on improving your curb appeal. Before you do any cutting, however, make sure you reference a guide on the type of bushes and trees you have.
Add outdoor lighting. You can have the most beautiful property in the world, but if you don’t have outdoor or landscape lighting, it is completely lost when the sun goes down. An outdoor lighting company like OLPcan design and install a system that will highlight all the best parts of your property to increase the curb appeal and value of your home. We make sure to incorporate the architectural details, the colors and the landscaping into our overall design for the best result.
