Tim Williams, Owner & Chief Illumination Officer

Tim Williams is the owner of Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Greater Albany, where he helps homeowners and businesses see their properties in a whole new light through thoughtful, professionally designed outdoor lighting.

A U.S. Navy veteran who served as a combat medic with the U.S. Marine Corps, Tim brings a service-first mindset to his business. After more than 20 years in leadership, consulting, and business ownership, he was drawn to Outdoor Lighting Perspectives because it combines two things he values: building lasting relationships with people and creating something tangible that can transform the way they experience their home or business.

Tim believes great outdoor lighting isn't about adding more light, it's about putting the right light in the right place. His design process begins by understanding the property and how the client wants to use and experience it after dark. From architectural and landscape lighting to outdoor living spaces, permanent roofline and holiday lighting, his goal is to create designs that enhance the character of the property rather than overpower it.

Deeply involved in the Capital Region community, Tim was named the Capital Region Chamber's 2023 Ambassador of the Year and serves as Board Secretary for the McNulty Veteran Business Center and on the Capital Region Veterans Memorial Advisory Board. He is also an active mentor and advocate for veteran entrepreneurship.

Tim holds an MBA from the University at Albany and a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry from Rhode Island College. Outside of work, he enjoys woodworking, building theatrical sets, staying active, and spending time with his wife, Stacie, and their twin daughters.

  • Jay Merced Lighting Technician

Behind every great outdoor lighting system is a team of skilled professionals who bring the design to life. One of those team members is Jay, who helps install and implement outdoor lighting systems throughout New York’s Capital Region.

Jay joined Outdoor Lighting Perspectives with a background in construction and electrical systems, which makes her particularly well suited for the technical side of lighting installation. Her experience working with wiring and electrical systems translates naturally into building reliable, well-structured outdoor lighting systems for homeowners.

One of the things Jay enjoys most about her work is seeing how dramatically a property changes once the sun goes down. During the day, a home may already look beautiful but when thoughtfully designed outdoor lighting is introduced, the entire space takes on a completely new dimension.

Jay especially enjoys installing color-changing bonsai lighting, which gives homeowners tremendous flexibility. With more than 36,000 color options plus a full range of warm white tones, these systems allow homeowners to create different looks depending on the season, holiday, or occasion.

While some lighting systems are complex, Jay also points out that sometimes the simplest upgrades make the biggest difference. Path lighting, for example, can dramatically improve both safety and the visual appeal of walkways and entrances.

For Jay, one of the most satisfying moments in any project happens at the very end, when the installation is complete, the power is turned on, and the entire lighting design comes to life.

When she’s not working on lighting projects, Jay volunteers with her local fire department, continuing her commitment to serving her community in Montgomery County.

  • Matt Smith Lighting Technician

Matt is part of the team at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Greater Albany, helping bring outdoor lighting designs to life for homeowners across the Capital Region.

Originally from Clifton Park, Matt joined the company after working in the hospitality industry. That experience developed a strong focus on service and attention to the homeowner experience, something that translates naturally into lighting projects where communication, craftsmanship, and care all matter.

What Matt enjoys most about outdoor lighting is watching a project come together. From the initial design through installation and the final reveal after dark, each project follows a process that transforms the look and feel of a home.

One of Matt’s favorite systems to install is permanent roofline lighting, which allows homeowners to easily change colors and themes throughout the year. These systems provide flexibility for holidays, special events, and everyday lighting while maintaining a clean, professional appearance.

Matt also appreciates how path lighting and architectural uplighting can dramatically improve the appearance of a home with relatively small changes. Even highlighting a few columns or entry features can make a house feel warmer and more welcoming at night.

One of the most rewarding moments for Matt comes at the end of an installation, when the final light is placed and the system is turned on for the first time.

Outside of work, Matt enjoys playing ultimate frisbee and volunteering with Casual Sets to teach young adults how to build theatrical sets for high school drama programs throughout the Capital Region.
