In the image above, you’ll notice there isn’t an extremely elaborate landscaping project to illuminate. So, we decided to use focal lighting and pathway lighting to add beauty, as well as safety to the area. You would be surprised by how broad of a term “landscape lighting” truly is. Simply put, landscape lighting involves bringing your trees, walkways, pathways, pergola, gazebo or other outdoor living area to life at night. Some may call it “outdoor lighting”, while others may call it “landscape lighting”. At Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Raleigh, we refer to landscape lighting as any lighting that’s not solely focused on illuminating your home’s architectural façade.
While this pathway, in the image above, is quite elaborate, the purpose of the lighting is twofold. First, we needed to bring enough practical illumination to make the pathway traversable after dark. Second, we needed to ensure the amount of illumination wasn’t overwhelming or too dim. There’s a very fine line between too much illumination and too little. It’s a line we are extremely experienced in perfecting. While this common area was essentially a “no-go zone” at night, we were able to bring its beauty to the forefront once the sun sets. Using different focal points, by way of specific lighting fixtures, this landscape lighting helped to completely transform the common area.
If you do have an elaborate landscaping project, you definitely invested quite a bit of money into it. So, why would you allow it to disappear come sundown? In the photo above, you’ll notice this very elaborate water feature that is part of the landscaping project. We ensured that each focal point needed was provided with warm, subtle illumination. The interesting part is that when the sun goes down this water feature looks completely different than it did during the day!
