Customized Wilmington outdoor lighting solutions for unique architectural features

widow's roost lighting With customized outdoor lighting for your unique architectural features, your Wilmington home can shine both day and night. The Carolina coast features a large variety of architectural styles. While many homes are brand new, others have withstood the test of time and also feature historical coastal architecture.

Widow’s Roost

You must get the most out of the water view by being able to enjoy it from a distance as well as up close, especially when living in a gorgeous place like Wilmington. One example is a recent project we tackled on a home featuring the Widow’s Roost, also known as Widow’s Walk. It was popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It is a rooftop platform used as a lookout at the water. Some of these platforms had a small, enclosed space at the top for light to enter and a higher place to look out of.

Widow’s Walks were first used on coastal New England houses to lookout for incoming ships. The name derives from wives of mariners waiting upon their husband’s return from sea. As times have passed, countless North American homes overlooking water of any kind have installed one of these amazing features.

We applied a unique and custom solution of LED tape lights on the bottom rail of the Widow’s Roost, shining up, to illuminate the design. Lights surrounding the railings highlight the entire area without shining bright lights into the eyes of those on the ground.

The track is installed on the rails, while the lights are placed inside of the track. A Widow’s Roosts is aesthetically appealing by itself. However, adding outdoor lighting to it will only increase visibility and safety while entering and exiting the deck. The lighting highlights the beauty of this charming architectural feature.

Deck lighting

Other options for Widow Roost lighting are deck lights. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives offers them in a variety of shapes and sizes, including post, rail, and cap lights. We always customize the design to meet your desires for unique looks specific to your home.

Our deck lighting is designed to last and withstand undesirable weather conditions. Professionally installed outdoor lighting adds safety and increased function to all your home’s charming features.
