Holiday Events in Historic Downtown Wilmington

Go Christmas Caroling on a trolley to check out the gorgeous holiday lights in Historic Downtown Wilmington on December 16th, 17th, 23rd, and 24th from 6 pm to 10 pm. If you enjoy boating, ride down the Cape Fear River along the Riverwalk, enjoying the beautiful holiday lights and live holiday music while sampling cocktails and appetizers on December 2nd, 3rd, 16th, 17th, 18th, and 30th from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Enjoy a visit with Santa while walking through the Wilmington Railroad Museum, which is transformed into a winter wonderland full of lights, model trains, and musical animations. This event is held from 6:30 pm to 8 pm on December 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 23rd, and 30th.

Wilmington Christmas Classics

Enjoy a self-guided tour for the 50th Anniversary of the Candlelight Walking Tour through more than a dozen historic buildings and homes on Saturday, December 10th, 4 pm – 8 pm or Sunday, December 11th, 1 pm – 5 pm. The Thalian Hall Center for Performing Arts will be exhibiting “The Nutcracker” on December 2nd at 4 pm and 7 pm and December 3rd at 10 am. They will also be screening “It’s a Wonderful Life” on December 22nd at 4 pm and 7 pm. At the Wilson Center, enjoy the North Carolina Symphony’s Holiday Pops Concert on December 11th at 3 pm or 7:30 pm.

Holiday Cocktail

Check out the Cape Fear Festival of Trees at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher to check out all of the beautifully decorated trees, November 18th through January 2nd, 9 am to 5 pm. While watercrafts decked out for the holidays, cruise from Snows Cut to The Carolina Boat Basin and back on December 3rd starting at 6 pm. Find a spot to stop and enjoy the Island of Lights Christmas Flotilla. Get out to the Kure Beach Ocean Front Park & Pavilion for the Kure Beach Holiday Whoobie Whatty for a Grinch-themed celebration on December 16th, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Celebrate the New Year in Wilmington

Take those little ones to celebrate the New Year for New Year’s Noon at the Children’s Museum of Wilmington on December 31st from 9 am to 12 pm. Enjoy a giant beach ball drop followed by magnificent fireworks for the Island of Lights New Year’s Eve Celebration on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk on December 31st, beginning at 9 pm. Join the New Year’s Eve Cruise down the Intracoastal Waterway returning just before midnight to enjoy the fireworks on December 31st at 10 pm.
