The City of Southport 4th of July: Brilliant Traditions and Small Town Charm

At Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Wilmington, we have a soft spot for the geography, history and charm of the North Carolina coast. When it comes to getting a true southern coastal experience, nothing beats the city of Southport, North Carolina. While we have many Southport outdoor lighting clients, whom we love, we adore spending time in Southport for recreational purposes. As a small community with less tourism than some of the beaches, Southport offers a lovely atmosphere, especially during its annual Independence Day celebration famously known as the North Carolina 4th of July Festival.

Fourth of July Fireworks on the 4th of July!

An annual tradition for over 200 years, South Port celebrates the 4th of July with 40,000-50,000 of our closest friends. This year the festivities start on June 24th with the Freedom Run/Walk to the opening ceremonies on Saturday the 25th and go all the way through Monday, July 4th where the riverfront fireworks show will happen ON the 4th of July.  From the Main Stage on the Cape Fear River up to Franklin Square Park, all of Southport will be transformed into a patriotic celebration for 10 straight days of festivities.

Southport Keeps Tradition Alive with an Annual 4th of July Parade

The city of Southport likes to keep the traditions alive for the North Carolina 4th of July Festival. While festivities last for 10 days, events on July 4th feature traditional favorites not always found in other cities. To start the day right there is pancake breakfast, followed by an annual Independence Day parade that stretches down Moore & Howe. From a Classic Car Show to a Flag Raising Ceremony, free entertainment on the Waterfront stage and a Boat Raffle Drawing, Southport does the Fourth of July right with activities to keep you busy all day long. Ending the festival with the awe-inspiring Fireworks display on the Riverfront, there is no place I’d rather be on the birthday of this great nation.

From Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Wilmington to all of our fellow Americans, Happy 4th of July!
