PRESS RELEASE FOR HALOGEN

Federal Regulations taking effect July 1, 2023, prevents the retail sale of halogen lamps.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Kansas City is preparing customers for the permanent transition to LED lighting as new rules go into effect in July to prevent/ban the retail sale of all halogen lamps.

LENEXA, KAN. – Customers are being forced to plan ahead as the new rules mandated by the Department of Energy regarding the sale of halogen bulbs go into effect. The rule is part of the Energy Conservation Program and can be found here: https://www.regulations.gov/document/EERE-2021-BT-STD-0012-0022

The rule was published in January 2017 and revised the definitions of a general service lamp, or GSL, and a general service incandescent lamp, or GSIL. The “January 2017 Final Rules” go into effect on July 1, 2023. To paraphrase, this rule is designed with the intent to reduce pressure on the energy grip by converting over time to more energy-efficient LED light bulbs and fixtures.

As a result of this rule, as of July 1, 2023, effective date, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Kansas City will no longer be allowed to sell halogen bulbs, and once the current stock is depleted, OLP of KC will not be purchasing any more for sale or storage. If you are interested in buying some of the warehouse stock currently in possession, this will need to be done by Jun 30, 2023.

Customers will not be required to change their systems immediately due to this new rule, but it will make getting materials for an existing “Legacy” system hard after Jul 1, 2023. And although these changes will mean upgrading your system to LED in the future, you will soon experience the many benefits of having an LED system. LED lamps not only cost less to operate than halogen lamps, but they also have a life expectancy of 30,000-50,000 hours versus the 2,000-5,000 hours you get with halogen bulbs.

Just to emphasize again, your system may not need to be replaced just yet, but keep in mind once your halogen bulbs need to be replaced, they will have to be replaced with LED.
