COVID-19 Update

Here’s an idea – convert your outdoor lighting to LED before 2020!

OUTDOOR LIGHTING PERSPECTIVES OF CHARLOTTE WANTS YOU TO KNOW THAT YOUR TRADITIONAL OUTDOOR LIGHTING BULBS ARE ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK. THEY WILL BE OUTLAWED BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 2020. NOW IS THE TIME TO CONSIDER SWITCHING TO LED OUTDOOR LIGHTING.

The Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007, instated in a bipartisan act of Congress, is rolling out its second and final tier, effective in 2020. Any traditional general service lamp (GSL) will be unlawful to manufacture, import, or purchase, which does not meet the new energy standard of 45 lumens per watt (LPW). There are currently more than 1,000 LED bulbs on the market, which meet and exceed these standards, and it’s time to invest in LED outdoor lighting.

There are proposed exceptions to the new lighting standards

There are some proposed or already accepted exceptions to the EISA of 2007, including specialty bulbs, like candelabras, globes, reflector recessed lighting, floodlights, and three-way bulbs. What is not listed in these exceptions? Lighting for outdoor decorative purposes. Did you know that the light bulb had not undergone design or usage enhancements until this law was passed, since the days of Edison?

Fear over LED bulb costs can be easily appeased.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte doesn’t want you to worry about the cost of LED versus traditional bulbs. It is estimated that a new LED bulb costs about 60% more than a traditional bulb upfront. However, LED offers cost savings in that they last an average of 35 times longer than traditional bulbs, and they cost less to operate with up to 85% in energy savings. You might be asking yourselves, “Why didn’t I do this sooner?”
