Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte (OLP) and our client, interior designer Gray Walker, ASID were featured in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on 4/23/21 in an article titled, “Outdoor Lighting Ideas to Make Your Yard Look Like a Luxury Resort.”
Gray Walker, ASID, owner of Gray Walker Interiors and an OLP Charlotte client, reached out to Monica Catania, co-owner of OLP Charlotte, when an opportunity arose for the WSJ to do an article on layered outdoor lighting. Walker has a gazebo that is as gorgeous at night as it is during the day that they wanted to feature in the article.
The article highlights several different types of lighting that help this gazebo and Ms. Walker’s backyard shine after the sun goes down.
- Path lighting – Strategically placed path lights down the stairs to the gazebo help guests safely navigate the path at night.
- Up lighting – There are several accent up lights in the ceiling of the gazebo that shine through the slatted roof to help illuminate the space and also provide a unique shadowing effect. There are also several oak trees and Japanese magnolias that are highlighted to help bring the eye up and create a “wonderland” of branches
- Water Features – A couple of up lights highlight the waist-high water fountain on the way to the gazebo to give guests that mid-level radiance.
Low-voltage lighting is not only eco-friendly, but with the right layering it can turn your backyard into a true masterpiece in the evening. As Ms. Walker states in the article, “It just makes me feel like I live in a little jewel box.”
